I'm Erin.
I own a small army of house plants and collect elephants from every city I visit. I dance around the house to ABBA on vinyl with my cat, Couscous, and feed my love of fantasy running Dungeons and Dragons games for my friends.
I love telling meaningful stories that help foster human connection. Capturing slices of everyday life is just as important as documenting the major headline news of the day, and I love the hunt for the hidden gems in my community just waiting to be shared. Whether I'm behind my camera, sitting down for a video interview or writing a feature, I strive to let my subjects' voices shine in every project I create.
After growing up in Madison, WI, I received a photojournalism degree from the University of Missouri. Before landing at the Sioux Falls Argus Leader, I held positions with the Fargo Forum newspaper, Wyoming Wildlife Magazine and assisted at National Geographic, as well as contributing to a variety of organizations in Barcelona, Spain. My work has been published nationally, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, USA Today and Rolling Stone.
In 2022, I became the Outstanding Young Journalist of the Year with the South Dakota Newspaper Association. Ignored, a project exposing the failures of the state to support deaf and hard of hearing children, earned myself and then-education reporter Shelly Conlon first place in our division for the 2020 Katherine Schneider Journalism Award for Excellence in Reporting on Disability.
I'm always looking for new ideas and projects of all kinds, so don't hesitate to contact me with any thoughts you may have! Can't wait to get in touch.
